Marlene McDonald, the Housing and Urban Development Minister, has been fired by Prime Minister, Dr Keith Rowley. The decision was made earlier this evening after new corruption allegations were brought forward against McDonald.
In a release from the Office of the Prime Minister, the public was made aware that President Anthony Carmona had acted in accordance with the advice of the Prime Minister and revoked the appointment of Ms. Marlene McDonald as Minister of Housing and Urban Development
It is alleged that McDonald appropriated public funds towards her husband and family members by employing them at the Port of Spain South constituency office, an act that is forbidden by the rules of Parliament. Other allegations include the giving of a grant of $575,000 to Calabar Foundation, of which McDonald's husband is a director.
With the removal of McDonald the Cabinet was also readjusted with Randall Mitchell being reassigned from Minister with responsibility for Public Administration to Minister with responsibility for Housing and Urban Development.
Minister Maxie Cuffie was reassigned from Minister with responsibility for Communication to Minister with responsibility for Public Administration and Communication. Also Stuart Young was assigned as a Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, in addition to his current portfolio as Minister in the Ministry of the Attorney General
