The Water And Sewerage Authority (WASA) says operations have been restored at the Caroni Water Treatment Plant, following a fire earlier today.
The Authority says electrical work was completed ahead of schedule and the plant was operational around 3:30 p.m. However, it's warning customers that it may take up to six hours before service is normalised in some affected areas.
WASA said the damage was as a result of a fire at the Alum Complex of the Plant which started at 10:45 a.m., and occurred while welding associated with ongoing maintenance works, was being carried out in the vicinity of the Alum Complex. Appliances and Officers from the nearby Piarco Fire Station responded promptly to the scene and were able to contain and extinguish the blaze.
