British actor, Alan Rickman, 69, has died in London after a long battle with cancer.
Rickman's death was confirmed by his family this morning with a statement that said "The actor and director Alan Rickman has died from cancer at the age of 69. He was surrounded by family and friends". He had kept his struggle with cancer a secret from the public.
Rickman was best known for his roles as Professor Severus Snape in the Harry Potter films, Hans Gruber in Die Hard, Harry in Love Actually, and many others.
He won the British Academy of Film and the Performing Arts (BAFTA) award for his performance in Robin Rood as well as a Golden Globe for the HBO film Rasputin.
