Kieran Powell, the former West Indies opener who disappeared off the face of the earth, has resurfaced in Florida where he plans to be a Baseball player.
Powell, who took a break from cricket after a falling out with the WICB that has never reached the public domain, indicated that he was preparing for a tryout at the IMG Academy on January 13th in a bid to be signed by a Major League Baseball franchise. Powell said the opportunity came about after the LA Dodgers saw some footage of him playing cricket and became interested. He has the advantage of a cricket background to help him on the fielding side of things but it is his batting that will be the main focus after a Test career that saw him averaging just 27.48 despite three centuries. At one time, he was seen as the other opener for the future along with Kraigg Brathwaithe. However, it seems that his future now lies in America's favourite pastime.
We wish Kieran Powell all the best!
We do wonder though if the LA Dodgers didn't mix him up with Keiron Pollard, based on the latters' tremendous power hitting.
