Senate President Christine Kangaloo has been sworn in as the Acting President of Trinidad and Tobago, as President Anthony Carmona goes on vacation.
The ceremony took place yesterday afternoon at the office of the President at around 4:55pm, where Kangaloo was sworn in by Chief Justice Ivor Archie. Her period as the Acting President will continue until January 1st 2016, when the President returns from vacation.
According to the Trinidad and Tobago parliamentary website, Kangaloo served as vice president of the senate in 2002 as well as the Minister of Legal Affairs from 2005 to 2007, and the Minister of Science, Technology and Tertiary Education, after the general election in 2007.
Prior to Kangaloo, other female Acting Presidents include Dr Linda Baboolal and Raziah Ahmed. Both were also Senate presidents
