Works and Infrastructure Minister Fitzgerald Hinds says he is still in shock at the legal action taken against him by former Attorney General Anand Ramlogan.
Hinds made the statement at the hall of justice on Wednesday before Justice Vashiest Kokaram. Ramlogan brought a defamation lawsuit against hinds alleging that Hinds defamed his character when he accused the former AG of committing criminal offenses including fraud and misbehaviour in public office. The incident is said to have occurred at the Guaico Government School in May of 2014 during a political meeting.
Hinds, however, is saying the statements were not made with malicious intent but were in fact part of the normal political arena banter between opposing politicians. Hinds said he had also been the recipient of statements by politicians but he never took legal action because in politics “one has to expect cut and thrust.”
