St. Anthony’s College advanced to yet another National Intercol Final after defeating Carapichaima East two nil in the first Intercol Semi-final yesterday at the Hasely Crawford Stadium. Substitute Haile Beckles was the hero for the Westmoorings Tigers as he scored a double to lead them to victory. The Saints now await the winner of the clash between Premier League winners Naparima College and the Green Machine of St. Augustine, which is scheduled for this afternoon at the Manny Ramjohn stadium.
St. Anthony’s and Naparima have both won the Intercol title six times and are favourites to clash again this season. Naparima College has only done the national double once before in the illustrious history and would have that motivation to repeat that performance against their greatest modern rivals in terms of trophies. St. Augustine are not to be counted out though as they are actually the third most successful team in the past decade of schoolboys football, after the two other powerhouses with four national titles including this very same Intercol trophy just two seasons ago.
As the season winds down, it is anyone’s guess as to which of these three schools will add to their storied history but for the neutral fan it is sure to be exciting to watch the season rush to its conclusion.
