T&T Red Force has a new captain for the third round match versus the Jamaican Scorpions. Twenty-four year old all-rounder, Yannick Ottley will lead a youthful squad with Narsingh Deonarine as his vice-captain at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port-of-Spain.
The Red Force made three changes to the squad. Fast bowler, Marlon Richards comes into the squad for Rayad Emrit, Jeremy Solozano is in for opening batsman Evin Lewis and Uthman Muhammad replaces Shannon Gabriel.
Ottley has been groomed for leadership after excelling in the national youth teams and the West Indies Under-19 team. “It is a bit exciting at the moment and it is an honour to captain my country. I can’t wait for the game against Jamaica, I just want to do my best and lead from the front,” he said.
The young captain says he intends to influence the team’s approach to the game.
“I want to influence the attitude of the team. For the last few games we have been talking about having a new attitude towards training, games, fielding, batting and all aspects of the game so hopefully we can continue with that and you can see the performance on the field,” said Ottley.
He also extended his best wishes to the players departing for the Bangladesh Premier League and expects the replacements to fill their shoes.
The former West Indies Under-19 vice-captain commended the team for playing good cricket in the first two rounds and stressed his intentions of restoring the Red Force’s invincibility on home soil.
