Child and Gender responsibilities now under the Office of the Prime Minister

The Office of the Prime Minister will now be taking responsibility for a wide range of matters relating to children and gender affairs.

In a release from the Office of the Prime Minister, it said that responsibilities for matters relating to the Children’s Authority, Child Development, Children’s Homes, Children with special needs, Community Residences, Orphanages and Gender Affairs have been removed from the purview of the Ministry of Social Development and Family Services and assigned to the Office of the Prime Minister.

In this regard, the release said, Minister of State in the Office of the Prime Minister Ayana Webster-Roy’s portfolio will be expanded to include these responsibilities, previously held by Mrs. Cherrie-Ann Crichlow-Cockburn.

President Anthony Carmona, the release said, has been advised of the adjustment in accordance with Section 79(1) of the Constitution of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

This change became effective Wednesday November 11th.
