The United National Congress has a new Chief Whip, Ganga Singh.
Taking to Facebook this afternoon, Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar said she informed the Clerk of the House of Representatives that Singh, MP for Chaguanas West, has been appointed to serve as Opposition Chief Whip.
“Mr. Singh is very experienced with respect to the duties of an Opposition Chief Whip as he has served in this capacity from 2002-2006 and was currently serving as Deputy Chief Whip of the Opposition Bench. Additionally, he served as Leader of Government Business in the Senate under the People’s Partnership administration,” Persad-Bissessar said.
“He was very effective and disciplined in managing both the House and Senate caucuses in the past and I anticipate that his leadership as Opposition Chief Whip now would be invaluable in holding the present PNM government accountable in the House,” she concluded.
Former Chief Whip Dr Roodal Moonilal recently resigned the post since he is contesting the leadership of the party in their upcoming internal elections on December 5th.
