Body Found Near Caroni Bird Sanctuary


The body of a man was found in a vehicle near the Bird Sanctuary in Caroni early this morning. Police have identified the man as 34 year old Rajesh Rooplal and are treating the death as a suicide.

Rooplal, a restaurant supervisor at a popular restaurant in Chaguanas, is from Gordan Village, Tortuga. He was found frothing at the mouth inside a red Mitsubishi Van at around 4:30am. The discovery was made by police officers attached to the Highway Patrol Division.

The officers said that they observed the van parked off the roadway, and went to investigate. Rooplal was found slouched in the driver’s seat.  His body was removed to the forensic science centre in St. James, where an autopsy is to be performed.

The police are of the belief that Roolpal had committed suicide, stating that there were no visible marks of violence on his body, and also that a poisonous substance was also found inside of the vehicle.

Investigations into the death are still ongoing
