One-hundred and fifty thousand dollars bail. That’s the amount granted for the man accused of physically abusing a two year old girl in a viral video last week.
Dexter Gobin appeared before Tunapuna Magistrate Gillian Scotland this morning to answer charges laid under the Children’s Act.
His wife, Jamaican born Janique Gobin also appeared but was remanded into custody because she overstayed her legal tenure. Despite being married to Dexter earlier this year, she has been remanded to the Women's Penitentiary until the matter before the court is resolved.
She will have to go back to Jamaica before she can return to apply for residency.
Dexter Gobin is required to report to the St. Joseph police station on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.
The couple stand accused of wilful assault of a child on October 17th and 24th. The charges were laid indictably. Their attorney, Fareed Ali, said although he is pleased with Gobin receiving bail, he feels it was too harsh.
The couple will reappear in court on November 16th
