Trinidad and Tobago cricketer Lendl Simmons has been ordered to pay Therese Ho one hundred and fifty thousand dollars ($150,000.00 TT) in damages following the conclusion of the "Revenge Porn" case as it is popularly known on social media.
In his ruling this morning, Justice Frank Seepersad slammed the law which he says are 'archaic' and fail to protect citizens on the internet and social media platforms. He noted " How are we to build a developed nation when we encourage and celebrate disrespect?". This ruling follows the recent leaks of several other revealing photos of young ladies just this past week prompting fashion designer and national award winner Anya Ayoung-Chee to make a public statement via social media condemning those that would distribute and celebrate the leaks of private images. Ms. Ayoung-Chee herself has been the victim of a similar experience to Ms. Ho, although in her case no one was held responsible for distributing the images to the public.
Simmons had no comment following the ruling. Hopefully with the case being resolved he can finally focus his mind back to the field of play, despite the sum incurred.
Ms. Ho's lawyers indicated that a formal statement will be made this afternoon at 4pm regarding the ruling.
